Als make first foray into free agency
At about 1 a.m. Thursday, Als Inside/Out learned Montreal has signed free-agent linebacker Rod Davis from the Edmonton Eskimos.
Davis, an import from Gulfport, Miss., is 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds. He spent the last three seasons with the Eskimos.

The Alouettes have lost their first free agent and, as expected, it’s Paul Woldu.
The non-import cornerback signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for two years on Wednesday, as free agency began in the Canadian Football League.

Watkins retires
In a somewhat surprising move, the Alouettes announced the retirement of wide-receiver Kerry Watkins late Tuesday afternoon.
Watkins spent eight seasons in the Canadian Football League, all with Montreal. On Monday, asked about Watkins, general manager Jim Popp said the veteran had been medically cleared.
