It was a chilly one at practice today as the Riders continued their preparations for Sunday’s game against the B.C. Lions.
It actually felt more like fall than mid-August when the wind was factored in. But we all know the game goes on and here’s an abbreviated report from practice:
- Centre Dominic Picard has shed the crutches, but it was Chris Best who filled in with the first-team offence. It’s kind of funny seeing Best at the centre of attention the last few days. He’s a great guy and pretty funny. I guess that comes from being an offensive lineman. Best reportedly had some issues with the shotgun snap on Wednesday, but he’s working through those. There really wasn’t an update on Picard playing on Sunday. That may become clearer on Thursday or even Friday.
- I would guess we might see more of receiver Taj Smith on the weekend. Head coach Corey Chamblin said they were throwing more to him. Chamblin also mentioned that Smith has done some good things in the States and they need to help him learn the Canadian game.
- Chamblin said that Ben Heenan has shed his rookie label. Chamblin said that Heenan is now a young veteran and grades well after each game.
- I was working on a weekend project, so Rob was on the beat today. Check online later or in Thursday’s Leader-Post for what he managed to dig up.
That’s about it. Did I mention it was cold?
