Some highlights and observations from a busy Sunday in Riderville.
- The Riders returned to Regina and Mosaic Stadium after spending Saturday in Saskatoon. There was a good crowd on hand on the east side. They received an entertaining look at the Riders working out and a good look at how the renovations are going at Mosaic Stadium.
- Both looked impressive. I like the tempo and enthusiasm during all of the drills. The fans even got to see the offence moving the ball up and down the field. Watching that is way better than sitting through special teams practices.
- Mosaic Stadium looks really cool. The new seats aren’t in, but a lot of the structure is in place. The two scoreboards are also nearing completion and they should be a great addition as well. The Riders deserve credit for being pro-active with the installation of two video scoreboards. I sat in the university section on the east side and the view of the huge scoreboard wasn’t very good. That’s why they installed one on top of the west grandstands. Should be very cool with a full house.
- The big news today was the trade the Riders completed with the Argonauts for offensive tackle Chris Patrick. The Riders have a number of offensive linemen, but were short at imports. Brendan Taman explained if they are to play two imports on the line, they need at least four on the roster. Thus, the trade. Also guard Chris Best is out for a couple of weeks with a foot injury. Pat Neufeld was filling in for Best on Sunday night. You can read more here about the offensive line or in Monday’s paper.
Remember to follow me on Twitter. If you had, you would seen some pictures of the renovations at Mosaic Stadium. Also the Riders at back at the University of Regina this morning.
